Al mal tiempo mala cara / 2009
‘Desde una misma especie’, From the same species is a project based on Fernando Pessoa's‘The Book of Disquiet’. Through my readings and drawings, I investigate the existentialquestions of the narrator and main character. In a personal dialogue with Pessoa, I translatedforty-two fragments from the book into forty-two drawings. According to my interpretation,the book, hence my drawings, talks about feelings that human beings are doomed to have ona day-to-day basis. Pessoa feels abandoned by God and, in addition, the uncertainty that thefuture brings, leads to anguish and despair. At the same time, his loneliness becomes adetermining factor for the boredom that he expresses while waiting for his death. A parallelcan be drawn between the text and aphorisms and the zoomorphic figures represented in mydrawings.
