Forget me not / 2024

The title of the work refers to the plant Myosotis ("Forget-me-not"), which has several different meanings; one of them is remembrance during farewells or after death.  We face death in different ways, and we talk a lot about our own salvation and how we can survieve as a especies. However, this does not help us understand that other species will not have a second chance. They are disappearing one by one from our planet. This project aims to speak about the fragility of life and works just like the Myosotis plant, which was given as a symbol of love to a loved one who departed and whose return was uncertain. The primary inspiration for the selection of painted animals was the IUCN Red List (The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species), which has become the most comprehensive global information source on the conservation status of animal, fungal, and plant species.

The IUCN Red List is a crucial indicator of the state of biodiversity in the world. It is much more than just a list of species and their status; it is a powerful tool for information and a catalyst for conservation actions. It also highlights political changes that are crucial for the protection of the natural resources we need to survive. The list provides information on distribution, population size, habitat and ecology, use and/or trade, threats, and conservation measures, serving as a basis for necessary conservation decisions. It is constantly evolving; some species are moving away from the brink of extinction, while others are not.
